Canada donates $100K for new Prince

Canada has donated $100,000 to charity as a present to Prince George.

The heir to the British throne was born on Monday (22.07.13) and his parents, Prince William and Duchess Catherine, asked for donations to be made to charitable causes rather than lavishing the new arrival with gifts.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced yesterday (25.07.13) his country will donate the huge sum to a children’s charity, to be decided at a later date.

As a small token, the newborn prince will also be presented with a Canadian-handcrafted blanket reflective of the country’s rich and diverse culture.

The Prime Minister said in a statement: “These gifts symbolise our warm ties to our royal family, honouring our close and enduring relationship.”

in a similar vein, New Zealand is sending Prince George a hand-spun, hand-knitted fine lace shawl, similar to one presented to Prince William when he was born.

Australia’s northern territory has opted for a more unusual present, gifting the little prince a five-month-old saltwater crocodile, which has also been named George.

The young crocodile will not be shipped to the future king, but placed at Crocosaurus Cove in the city of Darwin.

Chief minister of the Northern Territory, Adam Giles said: “Prince George and the royal couple will be receiving many gifts from around the world. This is something unique to the Northern Territory.

“Come out and visit at any point in time.”
