The crisis within the United National Party (UNP) continued to deepen as the wife of Colombo Mayor, A.J.M. Muzammil, Feroza Muzammil resigned from the Party’s Executive Committee (Ex-Co) yesterday, in protest over her not being given nomination to contest the forthcoming Western Provincial Council election.

In a letter to UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Feroza Muzammil has strongly opposed the party decision to refuse her nominations to contest in upcoming elections.

She noted that due to the crisis prevailing within the party and actions of the Leadership Council (LC) people were losing faith on UNP.

Disappointedover not receiving nominations, she said, “As the head of the ‘Kantha Saviya’ I have been involved in lots of community activities. I took initiatives to upgrade the living standards of underprivileged people, provide support for patients and organized lots of religious and cultural events. I did all those with the purpose of strengthening the UNP.”
She pointed out that female support,at all the UNP protests hold in Colombo, was provided by her.

She added,”I have done lot for the party, but I am really saddenedover not receiving nominations.

She claimed that a few in UNP acted as if the partywas their property and which was a huge injustice to themajority of party supporters.

She said she would be continuing her community service activities as the head of ‘Kantha Saviya’, but will not have any connection with the UNP.
